From Conference to Continuing Engagement
The Global Assamese Conference 2026 at IIT Guwahati brought together members of the Assamese diaspora, friends of Assam, institutions, scholars, professionals, cultural practitioners, entrepreneurs, and community leaders. The deliberations made one message clear: the connection between Assam and its global community must move beyond sentiment into structured, practical, and sustained engagement.
The Global Assamese Engagement Initiative has therefore been conceived as a living platform — rooted in Assam, open to the world, and committed to turning goodwill into measurable action. Its programme agenda combines aspiration with specific, achievable, and time-bound goals.
Our Guiding Aspiration
To build a trusted global platform through which Assamese people and friends of Assam can contribute knowledge, creativity, mentorship, resources, partnerships, and institutional energy to Assam’s long-term development.
Programme Priorities
1. Global Assamese Network
Build a verified and active global network of Assamese individuals, organisations, professionals, scholars, artists, entrepreneurs, students, and friends of Assam.
- Create a structured global contact database within the first year.
- Identify country, city, and sector coordinators where feasible.
- Develop regular channels of communication through newsletters, meetings, and digital platforms.
2. Knowledge and Mentorship Exchange
Connect global expertise with students, young professionals, institutions, and emerging initiatives in Assam.
- Launch a mentorship programme for students and early-career professionals.
- Organise online knowledge sessions across priority sectors every quarter.
- Create pathways for internships, shadowing, exposure visits, and collaborative learning.
3. Education, Skills, and Youth Development
Support educational improvement, skill development, and future-readiness among young people in Assam.
- Develop pilot programmes with selected colleges, schools, and training institutions.
- Support teacher development, guided self-learning, career exposure, and digital learning resources.
- Focus especially on students outside metropolitan privilege who can benefit from global mentoring.
4. Health, Wellbeing, and Healthcare Improvement
Promote practical collaboration in public health, healthcare quality, patient safety, preventive care, and professional exchange.
- Create a health and wellbeing working group within the initiative.
- Develop pilot projects in preventive health, community screening, quality improvement, and patient safety.
- Encourage collaboration between diaspora health professionals and institutions in Assam.
5. Culture, Language, and Living Heritage
Strengthen Assamese cultural continuity while encouraging contemporary and global expressions of Assamese identity.
- Support documentation of oral history, memory, music, literature, crafts, and community archives.
- Encourage Assamese language learning and cultural transmission among younger diaspora generations.
- Promote cultural exchange that is rooted, creative, and outward-looking.
6. Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Local Enterprise
Encourage practical support for startups, local producers, social enterprises, creative industries, and sustainable livelihoods in Assam.
- Create a pool of mentors in business, technology, finance, marketing, and governance.
- Identify promising local enterprises for advice, exposure, and partnership.
- Explore diaspora-supported market access for Assamese products and creative work.
7. Sustainability, Ecology, and Responsible Development
Support initiatives that respect Assam’s ecology, biodiversity, river systems, climate vulnerability, and community livelihoods.
- Develop conversations and pilot projects around sustainable tourism, bird tourism, environment, and rural livelihoods.
- Promote responsible development models that combine local knowledge with global expertise.
- Engage experts, institutions, and communities in long-term ecological thinking.
8. Research, Policy, and Institutional Collaboration
Create opportunities for collaborative research, policy dialogue, publications, conferences, and institutional partnerships.
- Facilitate links between universities, research centres, civil society, and diaspora scholars.
- Develop policy roundtables and thematic reports on areas of strategic importance to Assam.
- Encourage evidence-informed public discussion and long-term institutional memory.
SMART Agenda: First Two Years
To ensure that the initiative moves from aspiration to action, the first phase will focus on a limited number of specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound objectives.

The aspiration is simple but demanding: to build a lasting bridge between Assam and its global community — not only through emotion and memory, but through work, trust, institutions, and shared responsibility.
